Morningside Academy: elementary & middle school students meet and exceed academic grade level skills!
Morningside is honoring the life of Elizabeth Haughton. Elizabeth was a wonderful teacher who inspired us all with her dedication to her students. She always prioritized keeping the heart at the forefront of her science- driven work and committed so much of her life to showing the world how important both of those things are in education. We are thankful for the time we spent with her and all we learned from her over the years. She will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Morningside will continue to honor Elizabeth's grateful, loving spirit in our work with learners at our lab school in Seattle and all around the world. Our thoughts are with everyone who is mourning this tremendous loss.

It’s a great loss to society. Her example of love, compassion, kindness, fun, and science will forever, forever inspire. Sad sad day.
When I taught at Morningside Academy my second year- I had my kids come in early because well they were there anyway- I had them do timings on Elizabeth's think write add to 10. They loved it and showed up early to do it- one day I missed the bus to work- was 40 min late- Joanne Robbins said no worries I will go to your room and cover- she walked in and they were all already working she reported... Elizabeth Haughton had a crafty way of designing pinpoints- I mean you cannot make this stuff up. She got kids she was not even the room with to show up independently and learn- she knew how to challenge them with enthusiasm for learning and she celebrated their learning in a way that would make you feel like a million bucks- she was the most whole child educator if there ever was one. Gone too soon- we must carry on with her beautiful light and walk the path ahead for her.

This graph below shows the concerning learning trajectories of students before coming to Morningside. On average, they had only made 4 months growth in a full school year.
After a single year of intervention, first year students who were two or more years behind grade level made an average of 2.6 years growth in a single school year!

Solving Math Word Problems and Algebraic Thinking do not have to be a struggle!
Morningside's Algebra for Beginners could be subtitled Algebra for Elementary School Learners! The only skills that students need to get started are accuracy with simple math facts (of course fluency is better!) and a third grade reading level.
Both the Multiplication & Division and the Addition & Subtraction versions of the program include scripted explicit instruction AND timed fluency practice.
