We support our community’s children through research-based teaching methods and personalized curriculum placement. The science of reading guides our teaching and learning throughout the day.
Dr. Kent Johnson founded Morningside in Seattle in 1980. Morningside has two programs: Morningside Academy, a nonprofit school for children and youth; and Morningside Teachers’ Academy, for disseminating the Morningside Model of Generative Instruction.
Morningside Academy’s school helps both elementary and middle school students to catch up and get ahead. Our students have not previously reached their potential; many have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or ADD/ADHD; all have average to well above average intelligence. Morningside is not a school for children with significant emotional problems, behavioral problems, or developmental delays.
It is the policy of Morningside Academy that no person shall be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, political ideology, age, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, or the presence of any sensory, mental or physical handicap.
We at Morningside Academy acknowledge that we are on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present, and we honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
