The Process

Families who express interest in the rigorous full-year academic program at Morningside Academy will initially be interviewed by telephone. We will ask questions about your child’s current performance in school and of course, answer your questions as well. Once we have sent you a packet of information including general information, professional journal articles, and a book chapter about our school, we offer a parent interview with the Director of Admissions that will include a tour of the school and a visit to a classroom. Parents and guardians are asked to bring relevant reports and records to that meeting to assist in this initial evaluation.

We typically have the student visit for a half day that consists of a snapshot assessment, a morning of classes, recess and lunch. Like all students currently attending our school, your child would participate and receive a Daily Support Card. The Director of Admissions ends the visit with a brief meeting with you and your child. Once our administrators and teachers have had a chance to discuss your child’s participation, the Director of Admissions will schedule a second parent appointment to discuss enrollment. The second appointment usually takes place within one week of the student’s visit.

There is no formal application packet required prior to admissions. Should a suitable opening become available, students may be admitted during the current school year. An applicant must be well suited to the structure, frequent feedback, and positive support offered at our school in order to be offered enrollment for fall and placement on our wait list. We have an open enrollment process throughout the year should openings occur.

Students entering the fall program will be asked to attend a minimum of two weeks of the summer program. In addition, deposits for the fall program will be collected at the time of enrollment in order to reserve a spot. If you would like to visit, please contact Martha Staff, Director of Admissions.

I was in tears at our first Morningside parent/teacher conference when I heard my daughter was now reading above grade level.  Not only that, she’s met a great group of friends.  That’s just our family’s story.  There is hope and help out there for struggling kids, and Morningside is a superb choice.
