When I began questioning her reluctance to go to school, ability to focus in second grade, her principal at the time said to me, “Some kids just aren’t as smart as others.”
Wanna bet?!
I am deeply grateful to all of you for your work with my daughter, which has changed the course of her educational journey. Not only did you give her the educational success she needed, but also the respect and dignity she deserved.
It was at that moment that I felt a rush of comfort, warmth and understanding. It was like coming home after years away. Then for the first time I realized how much Morningside truly meant to me. Morningside was the only place that understood me. They “got me”.
I am a person who can now accept that I had and still do have learning problems/disabilities. As a kid this was too difficult for me to accept. Even admitting it was and still is hard for me. I remember all the anger I had, the fear, sadness, and the feeling that no one understood.
Morningside taught me so much about myself. I started to enjoy learning, and I felt good about it and myself. The strategies I learned during my time at Morningside still help me in my everyday life.
I went on to have a successful career and am now devoting my time to caring for my wonderful family. When my oldest daughter started having trouble in school, it broke my heart. I was so scared. All my feeling from my childhood surfaced and it was then that I picked up the phone and called Morningside.
Once again Morningside delivered. My daughter is reading spontaneously and she enjoys reading. She is feeling better about herself, and I cannot thank Kent enough for creating Morningside and changing my life.
Kent and the entire staff at Morningside are amazing people. Thank you for all you have done for me, my child and all the other families past and present.
